Restel Hotel Group to open a new hotel on Bulevardi in Helsinki

22/04/2013

Restel Oy and Ilmarinen have signed a long-term lease for the property located at Bulevardi 26 in Helsinki.  A new environment-friendly hotel with 120 modern guest rooms will be opened in the property by the beginning of 2015. Extensive renovation of the hotel property will begin during this spring. The new hotel will bring the number of Restel hotels to 50.

“The new hotel will strengthen our market share in Helsinki, in line with Restel’s strategy. We are very pleased to be able to add this property, situated in a major business location, to our range of hotels. With its long history, noteworthy buildings and tree-lined streets, the Bulevardi area of Helsinki is unique and stunning,” says Vice President Jari Laine of Restel Ltd. “Here we will build a high-standard hotel that draws on the character of the area,” Laine continues.

According to Letting Manager Ville Laurila of Ilmarinen, the hotel project is a long-term investment for Ilmarinen.

“Restel is a good and well-established tenant and we are glad to launch this joint hotel project with Restel. The demand for hotel services in the capital is growing constantly and a new type of hotel in the city centre is a welcome addition to the selection. The hotel project is also excellently suited to the present situation where the property market has an oversupply of office space,” Letting Manager Ville Laurila of Ilmarinen explains.

The architect and principal designer for the project is Architect Sami Horto of Inter-Arch Oy. The hotel will be built by NCC Ltd. The hotel building has a total surface area of 7700 m2. The eight-storey building will  have 120 guest rooms, two restaurants and a gym. The hotel will create new jobs for about 40 people.

Environmental values play key role

The new hotel property will be highly energy efficient. An application for the Gold level will be filed with the international LEED® Green Building Rating Systems (LEED® = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The LEED® program is a means for reducing the environmental impact of construction and property use. The criteria for certification are, among others, reduction of energy consumption, efficient use of water, lowering of carbon dioxide emissions, and improvement of indoor air quality.
